Briefing: Netflix Laps Cable Companies in Customer Satisfaction Survey — The Information

It’s almost an unfair fight. The annual American Customer Satisfaction Index surveyed people on how they felt about a variety of telecommunication services including streaming video, cable operators and internet services providers. No surprise: streaming companies like Netflix, YouTube Red, Twitch and Hulu topped the list while cable or satellite companies like Comcast Xfinity, Verizon and Dish were near the bottom. Hating on cable companies is practically an American pastime and has been for years.  The divide between streaming and cable is only growing starker as the latter loses subscribers, leaving a disgruntled customers base that has to bear the brunt of higher fees.Another interesting datapoint here is that streaming cable bundles like DirecTV Now and Sling rank higher than regular cable. They’re still below Netflix and company, but it proves that these new services are doing well enough with their customers and explains why so many media and cable companies are investing in them. Whether they are a good long term business is another matter entirely. But at least customers don’t actively hate them. Baby steps.
